My Father’s Story – Why This Work is Personal

“I see my father in the people I speak with every day.
He was sick for most of my childhood. Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at just six years old, his health declined over time. I watched him deteriorate—mentally and physically—and felt the constant turmoil it placed on our family. Growing up, I always wanted to be the advocate my father deserved.
He passed on December 30, 2020. Less than a year later, I joined Barasch & McGarry. While my father’s illness wasn’t caused by 9/11, the fear and the uncertainty of fighting an uphill battle are the same struggles many in the 9/11 community face.
That’s why this work is personal to me. I show up every day to be the advocate my father needed, and the one that the people we represent deserve. I hope that he would’ve been proud of me.”
This story is shared by Barasch & McGarry Client Advocate, Jenny, in remembrance of her father, Luciano D’Agosto.
