The 24th Remembrance of 9/11: We Take it Personally. We Continue Fighting.
On the 24th year of remembering the September 11, 2001 attacks, we honor
the sacrifices of the first responders and volunteers who were at the WTC and
Pentagon on the day of the attacks and who participated in the rescue and
recovery efforts during the following 8 months. We also honor the downtown
civilians, including the office workers, students, teachers, and residents who
returned once they were assured by our government that the “air [was] safe”.
As we all know, it wasn’t “safe” at all.
We remember not only those who died that day, but also the tens of thousands
who have since become ill, or passed away, from 9/11-related conditions. Their
courage, resilience, and sacrifice continue to inspire us every day.
Our Commitment to Advocacy and Justice
Barasch & McGarry was founded on the core values of advocacy and justice
for the 9/11 community. This past year, we carried that mission forward by
traveling to Washington, D.C. to fight for the community’s needs dozens of
times—pressing lawmakers to address the $3 billion shortfall threatening the
World Trade Center Health Program. We remain steadfast in our commitment
to ensure that every member of the 9/11 community has access to the health
care and compensation they deserve.
We take the federal health care cuts personally because two of our staff died
from 9/11 illnesses, dozens of our staff have lost loved ones on or after 9/11,
and many others in our office are fighting illnesses linked to the WTC toxins.
We are members of the 9/11 community too.
