Mike Barasch Donates 9/11 Victim Fund Award to American Cancer Society Hope Lodge

December 18, 2023 | Michael Barasch

Managing Partner Mike Barasch joined the American Cancer Society for a plaque dedication ceremony of its new kitchen at the Hope Lodge in Midtown Manhattan.

Hope Lodge provides cancer patients and their caregivers with free lodging in 22 cities while they undergo surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatments. It provides a nurturing home community close to several of New York City’s major cancer centers.

With Mike’s donation of his prostate cancer award from the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund, the American Cancer Society kickstarted a matching campaign that raised over $500,000 for the organization. As a result, all six kitchens at the Hope Lodge were renovated.

Also participating in the ceremony was Barasch & McGarry client Cathy Whitehead, who received supportive care at Hope Lodge in 2011 after she developed breast cancer from her exposure to Ground Zero toxins as an office worker in Lower Manhattan. After the plaque dedication ceremony, our firm hosted dinner for all 100 guests in Hope Lodge.

Michael…I’ve always appreciated your efforts to give to those in need. My husband and I will always remember you as the one person who actually cares and personally answered our phone calls so many years ago. We think of you often. Thank you for being you and never changing.
