What Is the 9/11 Treatment Referral Program?

June 30, 2018 | Michael Barasch

The World Trade Center Health Program is a vital benefit of the Zadroga Act, which provides healthcare screening and treatment for victims of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Registration with the program is also an important precursor to filing a claim with the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund. Unfortunately, not everyone knows the WTC Health Program exists, how to qualify, or why they should enroll. And, with the passage of time, many people who are becoming sick with 9/11 illnesses don’t associate their condition with 9/11, and therefore fail to apply for the benefits they deserve.

For all of these reasons, the 9/11 Treatment Referral Program was created, with a multilingual staff to assist individuals with information and enrollment. When you contact TRP, a trained employee will:

  • Help determine your eligibility
  • Send you an application
  • Guide you through the enrollment process

You should contact TRP if you were present in the contamination zone from September 11, 2001 to May 30, 2002, and you have any of these conditions:

  • 68 specific types of cancer
  • Asthma
  • Chronic cough
  • COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
  • Wheezing
  • Shortness of breath
  • Sleep apnea
  • Sinusitis
  • Acid reflux (GERS)
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Depression
  • Anxiety

If you are ruled eligible, you can receive a free annual health screening and free treatment for your 9/11-related health conditions.

If you are having trouble accessing the post-9/11 benefits you deserve, schedule a free consultation with a knowledgeable attorney at our firm. Please call Barasch & McGarry at [ln::phone] or contact us online.
