Breaking News: World Trade Center Health Program Funding Secured

February 3, 2026 | Barasch & McGarry

This month marks a historic and hard-fought victory for the 9/11 community, an achievement that will save lives. Congress has finally passed a bill that assures long-term funding for the World Trade Center Health Program, ensuring continued access to free monitoring, treatment, and cancer screenings for years to come. Had this funding not been secured, the Health Program would not have been able to accept new patients after 2027.

Full funding means stability. It means certainty. And most importantly, it means that those whose health has been impacted in the aftermath of September 11th will not be abandoned.

Securing support from members of Congress outside of the New York area was a challenge. Justice did not come easily. It is the result of years of relentless advocacy by the 9/11 community, responders, survivors, families, doctors, union leaders, and advocates; all who refused to accept broken promises or temporary solutions.

Our firm is proud to have stood alongside you in this fight. Our partners and staff proudly made dozens of trips to Washington in 2025 to make sure that the voices of both responders and civilians in the 9/11 community were heard loud and clear. We reminded legislators of their promise to “never forget.” Fortunately, this time they listened!

As we approach the 25th remembrance of September 11, 2001, this news carries special meaning. While this is a major milestone, our work is not finished. We must now press Secretary Kennedy of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services to end the NIOSH hiring freeze. The WTC Health Program must be fully staffed so that new patients don’t have to wait 6 months for an appointment to have their illnesses certified. And, we will implore Mr. Kennedy to restore research funding so that heart and autoimmune diseases can finally be covered.

A special thank you to those who heeded our call to action and called your legislators and demanded their support. Your involvement and advocacy made a difference.

Thanks for helping with those members of the PAPD, NYPD and the FDNY that have been paying for their health after spending hundreds of days and hours searching for those that could never be found.
Now, I’d like to see all those above, who spent the arduous task for searching for the dead, once it was obvious that very few survivors were helped.
Kindly go after the foreign nations that supported and financed the attack and let them pay for what we are still going through!

This is absolutely great news for those of us who are still suffering from the affects from the horrific attack on our great country and all who responded to help all who survived and then recover all those souls who perished on that horrific day…may God Bless all who served…may God Bless all who perished…and most of all may God Bless America…🇺🇸

Congratulations to Barasch & McGarry on this historic and hard-fought victory. I am truly grateful for your relentless advocacy and proud to have you as my attorneys. Securing long-term funding for the WTC Health Program is a monumental achievement for the entire 9/11 community, and your dedication continues to make a meaningful difference. Thank you for standing strong in this fight.

I want to thank everyone for making this happen being a first responder and being there for hundreds of hours for months at a time thank you again for making this happen and hopefully you can make the foreign countries that were involved in attacking us be responsible thank you and God bless and everyone stay healthy and safe

Thank you so much Barrasch and McGarry for all of your attention and leadership in this matter. Truly a firm, filled with loving people and caring for those who answered this call of aid, have yourselves answered the call which was needed for these patriots. Thanks for your devotion and dedication to the cause. A job well done.

Hello, this sounds great. Honestly and sincerely.

I am sincerely asking though about systematic sarcoidosis. it’s been 25 years and I still have my inherited disease without any certification for it. Each provider at the WTCHP seems to regulate how sarcoidosis is deemed certifiable. it is asinine.
I am dealing with a loss of work currently and I have been sick for over a month with pneumonia-like symptoms, I have no insurance, no income. I am only authorized treatment for asthma but it’s not asthma.
When I did go to see a pulmonologist, he said that the first avenue as in the inception of sarcoidosis is through your lungs. I do have imaging from 2007 from Mt. Sinai which shows several granulomas in my lungs. I don’t understand the red tape bureaucracy in this, my and many others’ health situation.
I have been seeking this certification based on doctors notes and words since 2002.

Again, I am proud and thankful for your strength and perseverance in this fight for funding and for standing up for those of us who were responders & civilians and those whom were victims.
I truly appreciate your help which is why I am here. I do not mean to minimize any of your actions. I am just sick (literally) and want to be able to get medications and treatment for something that others already have and it has been established except for me. StonyBrook WTCHP is horrible. They are nothing but fluff.

Thank You Barash & McCaray for your relentless support for all the 911 survivors and their Families . It’s so nice having your firm representing us. God Bless You All and your families also. 🙏🙏
I believe in prayer for what I’ve been through and I keep all of Barash and McCaray in my prayers

Thank You for advocating on the 911 behalf. How about addressing conditions developed and carry from involvement from 911. I have doctors notes
from a World Trade Program and each time told its not in the guidelines. Its always funding for administrative hiring, how about more funding for us 911 responders. Also what about the recent news about the City Of New York keeping quiet and hiding notes of air quality not being save down there. All of us should get representation and sue from 911 and the time air was not healthy to breathe.

As victims we yelled, cried and suffered.
During and days after 911 attacks I heard people saying “This is a job for Superman’
YOU answered the call, you showed up
Unmatched in talent, excellence and perseverance. This has not gone unnoticed. You are God sent.
May all your care, support and joy you brought to all victims. Return to you a hundredfold. We will never forget you. God Bless You.

The Elected Politicians & the Unelected Bureaucrats, should not forget, the WTC 9-11-2001 history.

The aftermath of adverse health conditions, should be remembered, to avoid a repeat of terrorist history.

The brave first responders, who have died and other first responders who will eventually die from the aftermath of the WTC 9-11-2001, should be remembered for their bravery.

For those of us affected with life changing illnesses due to 9/11, we are truly blessed to have Barasch & McGarry on our side, and to fight for us. Thank you so very much. You are helping make my next journey in my life hopeful

Thank you for your efforts, as a member of Utah task force 1, our team spent 10-12 days digging through the “pile”, e have lost several members to cancer and I myself have had several skin cancers removed! I am currently waiting to hear about my cabotage these cancers. I have been working with your attorneys and they have my claim in line to be reviewed! They have done a great job and I thank them! My case was submitted in December of 2024 so I am hoping it is reviewed soon!!!
Thanks again for your tireless efforts!

To all of you who have fought on our behalf, I thank you. I have lymphoma, and went through 6 months of chemotherapy, and am now receiving immunotherapy. The chemo stopped the rapid growth of my tumors, and now I can hope the immunotherapy will help stop the growth of new tumors.
I have followed your fight in Washington, and am grateful for your efforts. I’m proud to say I have you in my family’s corner.
Thank you again and may God Bless you.

Thank you all who responded to these attacks. Thanks to those fought on the planes to try and save as many lives as possible. Thanks to all who came out to the site for clean up and recovery. Thanks the citizens who donated tome, money, food, clothing, equipment etc. Thanks to out families who supported us and to neighbors who mowed out lawns while we were at the sites. Thanks to the WRC programs and its attorneys . Thank God for this great nation and the men and women who serve to protect her here and abroad. Thanks to the politicians who made this fund happen.
