Partner Sara Director Honored with 2022 Herald Top Lawyers of Long Island Award

Barasch & McGarry Partner Sara Director was recently honored for her work on behalf of 9/11 first responders and survivors when she was presented with a 2022 Herald Top Lawyers of Long Island Award.

The award, established by the Long Island Herald, recognizes attorneys for their extraordinary achievements in their legal careers and areas of expertise.

A native of Glen Cove, Director has been a tireless representative of the 9/11 community, helping many victims and their families access free health care and compensation awards that protect their quality of life and financial security. 

Herself a 9/11 survivor, Director works closely with first responders and survivors to prepare their claims to the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund (VCF), and has won many appeals of compensation award decisions.

Director has also assisted people with 9/11-related illnesses enroll in the free World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program.

Director has been recognized by Super Lawyers magazine with multiple awards, as both a Rising Star and a Super Lawyer, and has presented lectures to her peers in the legal community on various topics.

In addition, she has advocated for 9/11 first responders and survivors with uterine cancer, which the WTC Health Program and the 9/11 VCF have not yet included on their list of covered conditions.

The recent announcement that the health program has issued a proposed regulation to designate uterine cancer as 9/11-related demonstrates another yet achievement by Sara Director on behalf of the entire 9/11 community.
