Biography

Dana Cohen is a Partner at Barasch & McGarry where she co-leads the firm’s Family Assistance Team which represents families who have lost a loved one to 9/11-related disease.

Ms. Cohen first came to work at Barasch & McGarry in 1998 as a paralegal, and attended law school at night, graduating magna cum laude from Brooklyn Law School. Ms. Cohen has devoted her career to seeking justice for seriously injured people. In addition to leading the Family Assistance Team, she has handled some of the firm’s most complex cases, including those arising from medical malpractice, product liability, and firefighter accidents. Through her dedication and legal expertise she has recovered millions of dollars for the firm’s clients in many high-profile cases. In addition, she is one of the firm’s leading appellate practitioners.

    • I’ve handled many of the firm’s most complex and significant-injury litigations, which resulted in multi-million dollar recoveries. 
    • I’ve been instrumental in helping to shape and expand the law relative to firefighters and police officers who are injured in the line of duty. 
    • Recognized in the New York Law Journal for obtaining one of the top 20 New York injury settlements in 2018 for my work on a case involving crush injuries suffered by a laborer who was run over by an excavator at a construction site.
    • One of my cases resulted in one of the highest recoveries for a burn victim in NY at the time, $4 million.
    • One of my cases resulted in one of the highest recoveries in Rockland County – $2.25 million recovered for a laborer who suffered back injuries after being knocked off a scaffold that was struck by a forklift.
    • Successfully handled numerous cases other NY personal injury attorneys previously rejected as not viable.
